Wilderness First Responder

The Wilderness First Responder course is designed to provide an individual with an in-depth knowledge of wilderness medicine, and the basic skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the outdoors. This program is appropriate for professional outdoor guides and non-medical people who want a deeper understanding of wilderness medicine.

Students will learn the latest wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, treatment, and evacuation. Expert instructors employ a wide scope of teaching methods, balancing lectures with practical, hands-on skills and scenarios. Emphasis is placed on the materials learned and the critical decision-making skills surrounding effective backcountry medical management.

Upon course completion, students will earn the WFR certification, valid for two years.

Wilderness First Responder is September 24-29 at the J. W. "Red" Pattillo Community Center in Terlingua, TX.

WFR recertification September 27-29 - must show current WFR or WEMT (not WAFA) or <1 year expired. This will be a hybrid offering, with 16 hours online coursework to be done prior to class.

WAFA recertification likely Sept 27 and 28 afternoons (subject to change) - must show current WAFA or < 1 year expired. This will be a hybrid offering, with 16 hours online coursework to be done prior to class.

Adult and pediatric CPR/AED will be Sunday evening Sept 27. Online modules ahead of time, then 2 hours on Sept 27.

Anaphylaxis and epinephrine training will be Monday evening Sept 28, lasting 30 - 45 minutes. This is required yearly by the state of Texas for those administering unassigned epinephrine (epi owned by a tour company for example). This is included for BBBH employees. Others may take this optionally - please add if desired.

Fees are refundable prior to the start of the course, minus any expenses already incurred.

Ages 18 and up for WFR and other first aid offerings.
CPR/AED and epinephrine ages 14 and up. Participants under age 18 must have an adult present during class.
